Paint is the finish, not the fix
Paint is very good at making a wall look new and very bad at making it be new. It will not hide a proud joint, a bowed corner bead or a patch that was floated too narrow — it will emphasize all three, because a uniform sheen across an uneven surface is exactly what makes unevenness readable.
So the preparation is the job. Surfaces filled and sanded, edges cut in clean, trim and glass masked, floors covered, and the room left in a state where the paint is the last thing that has to go right rather than the thing carrying everything that went wrong earlier.
That is also the argument for having the same crew do the taping and the painting. When the people finishing the walls know they are the ones who will be painting them, the walls get finished to a standard that paint can work with. The same applies after drywall repairs and after a bathroom remodel.
We paint interiors as the last stage of our own work and as a job on its own - a repaint, a color change, or a room that has just been repaired.
