A good finish starts with how the board went on
It is tempting to think of drywall as the boring bit between framing and paint, and to assume that any flaw can be buried in mud later. It cannot. Butt joints landing in the middle of a wall, screws set too deep, board that does not sit tight to the framing, sheets run the wrong way across the studs — every one of those shows through the finish eventually, and no amount of compound hides them for long.
So the hanging matters. Sheets are laid out to keep joints away from the eye line where possible, fixed at the right spacing and depth, and cut tight around openings so the taper has flat ground to work with. On repairs the same logic applies in reverse: the patch is cut back to solid framing rather than floated over a soft edge.
We hang new board on framing we have built ourselves and on framing that was already there, and we repair board in rooms that are otherwise staying as they are — water damage, impact damage, ceilings that have been opened up for access. Taping follows on with the same crew.
